Brackett is a very nice general aviation airport in La Verne
California located between the Fairplex and Pudding Stone Lake. I
used to work near this airport and stopped in often for lunch. The
airport is not as busy as it used to be since an FBO that catered to
foreign students closed it's doors. With parallel runways and three
instrument approaches it's still a good place for training of both
private and instrument students.
Few airport cafe's are as close to
the action as Norm's Hangar. The patio is less than 300' feet
from runway 26L and the Cafe' pipes in Bracket Tower and Ground
Control. Norm's is average airport food but the view of airport
operations is second to none. Contrary to what you'll read on other
web sites Norm's IS NOT under new management and they DO accept
credit cards.
In the terminal there is also a Pilots Shop
which stocks a lot of items from toys to training aids, sectionals to oil
filters. It's no Aircraft Spruce but worth a visit.
On the
approach end of runway 26 left and right is the LA County
Fairgrounds. Seems like something is always going on there. While it's within walking distance I suggest you call for a cab. You never
know what gate(s) are closed and your short walk could turn into a
hike.

Fairplex and the LA County Fair are walking distance
from Brackett Airport. However, since you'll be on your feet
all day I'd suggest you call for a taxi. |
