Best time of the year to go? Anytime but Summer! It gets HOT!
Flight time in a Super Viking from KAJO? 0.6
Food on the airport? Yes,
Fuel on airport? Yes, on and off the airport.
Comments about arriving and departing  There is and acrobat box just north of the airport. Ask unicom about the status. Traffic patterns to the south of the airport with right traffic to Rwy 08. Rwy 08 is the calm wind runway.

8.5 Really nice place in the cooler times of the year. Eat at the airport or ask the one of the resorts to pick you up. Nice well maintained airport. Free transpiration to resorts.

Why Borrego Springs?

Don't discount the Borrego Valley Airport, this is a really nice stop during the cooler months. This area is truly desert surrounded on three sides by peaks rising to over 7000 feet. Visibility is always 100 plus miles and from the airport you can watch the acrobatic box. The last time this airport went IMC Nixon was President.

There are a few places to eat:

Assaggio Ristorante Italiano is on the airport. It has replaced the Tailwind Steakhouse. You can park within 70 feet of the door. They are open 7:00am to 9:00pm everyday except Tuesday. Nice place. Eat at the bar and watch the planes land and takeoff. BONUS!! there is a deck on top of the restaurant where you can watch the activity at the airport while sucking on an iced tea. Very good Italian food!

La Casa del Zorro is San Diego Counties only 4 Star resort. The food is outstanding but pricey. Lunch for two will run $50. It's very nice eating outside on the Patio. The airport manager can call a car for you and the ride is about 7 minutes. I've walked the grounds and they are very nice. Looks like a great place to stay.

The Arches Restaurant at the Borrego Springs Resort ranks pretty high among pilots too. Eat overlooking the golf course. I've never been there but I know they pick up and drop off at the airport

It's fun to get some cold drinks and sit on the deck rating everyone's landings.
Everyone's a critic! I and 33 of my closest friends flew into Borrego Valley airport on January 12, 2008 for our monthly get together.
The airports managers office. Stop in here just to see the pictures on the wall.
In the morning Road Runners show up at the Airport Managers office for a free handout
These birds are usually very evasive. I've never been this close to one before.

On a sad note. This is Brandon Johnson hand propping a friends plane at Borrego Valley Airport. I met Brandon this day as he sat next to me at lunch. No one knew the following Saturday he would be killed in a mid-air collision at Corona Airport. What a loss.

Rest in peace Brandon.
